Soul is the exiled Phantom Blade Zero protagonist with a ruined heart, sixty-six days to live and a conspiracy to unravel.

Soul is the protagonist of Phantom Blade Zero. Official store copy says he is framed for the death of his master, left with a ruined heart and given only sixty-six days to live. Hunted by former comrades and assassins, he crosses the Phantom World to uncover the conspiracy that condemned him while defending the values that still give his remaining life meaning.

01

A damaged heart and a fixed horizon

The sixty-six-day limit gives Soul’s journey a physical and moral deadline. The official story text repeatedly returns to heart imagery: the organ is ruined, but the larger journey asks what it means to possess a heart amid love, hatred, mercy and revenge. The countdown is therefore not merely a release-marketing number. It shapes the urgency of every rumor and confrontation.

Soul begins from isolation. His master is dead, his former comrades hunt him and the wider conspiracy makes obvious loyalties unreliable. That setup supports a journey where information and relationships can be as dangerous as direct combat. It also explains why the official description presents every rumor, story and whisper as a thread leading toward a larger mystery.

02

Exile and The Order

PlayStation’s announcement-trailer description calls Soul a Dark Raider exiled by The Order. Later official copy describes him as hunted by former comrades after being framed for his master’s death. Together, those statements identify the organization as part of his past and the crisis as an internal rupture rather than a simple invasion by strangers.

The full hierarchy, named members and exact relationship to Soul’s master are not yet described in the public English material. The important launch question is how the faction’s techniques and ideology differ from Soul’s own values, especially when the equipment loop allows techniques to pass from powerful opponents into the player’s arsenal.

Visual identity

Official concept art gives Soul a pale-haired silhouette beneath a broad dark hat, layered black cloth and articulated armor over one shoulder and both forearms. The equipment combines recognizable wandering-swordsman forms with engineered surfaces. It embodies the project’s kungfupunk idea before a line of dialogue is spoken.

His paired blades and modular armor details also make the four-slot weapon structure feel plausible on the body. The design avoids a bright heroic palette; pale hair and steel edges stand out against rain-black fabric, allowing movement and weapon arcs to carry the visual emphasis.
